•Approximately 100,000 Nebraskans
suffer from diabetes, and nearly 1/3 of these afflicted individuals
have yet to be diagnosed.
•According to the Nebraska Health and Human Service System,
groups at high risk who should be screened annually for diabetes
with fasting blood glucose include those with any of the following:

particularly abdominal obesity
2) Family
history of diabetes
3) History
of gestational diabetes or child weighing greater that 9 pounds at
birth
4) History
of hypertension, hightriglycerides, or low HDL cholesterol
5) Ethnic
backround known to be at higher risk for diabetes such as: Native
Americans, Hispanics, African Americans, Asian Americans, and
Pacific Islanders |

•If you have Diabetes, research
indicates you may need to check your blood sugar more often than you
think. Frequent testing combined with proper diet, exercise, and
diabetes medications can help lower blood sugar levels.
•Lower blood sugar levels can improve diabetes control and reduce
your risk of diabetes-related complications. The better you care for
yourself, the easier it will be to live day to day with this

Medicare |
•If you have Medicare, and are an
insulin or non-insulin dependent diabetic, you may qualify to
receive your diabetic supplies from Deines Pharmacy at no
cost to you. For your added convenience, we can also directly bill
Medicare for you.
•With the passing of the Therapeutic Shoe Bill, Medicare (Part B)
extended coverage to diabetic patients for footwear and foot
inserts. This protective footwear can help in the fight to prevent
the 54,000 diabetic amputations that occur each year. Medicare
covers diabetic patients for one pair of extra-depth shoes and three
pair of multi-density inserts per year. Deines Pharmacy now
